Location Caching in the Mobile Middleware Platform
نویسندگان
چکیده
The location of the mobile user is fundamental to all location-based services. To enable these services the mobile middleware platform needs to access the user’s location. Today a number of vendors like Ericsson and Nokia can provide mobile positioning services (MPS) that can be used to locate the user’s mobile device. Push services, triggered by the user’s location, also put heavy demands on the MPS. GPS technology and network based positioning has been researched in detail. Great strides are being made in improving the performance and accuracy of determining the position of a mobile device. This paper looks at performance and scalability issues in accessing the positioning information from the middleware platform. We discuss an implementation where we allow the application to specify the accuracy of positioning required and then use the user’s current location and velocity to determine the location caching policy.

Interoperating with Services in a Mobile Environment
Mobile computing is characterised by users carrying portable devices that allow communication between people and continuous access to networked services independent of their physical location. A mobile application must discover and interoperate with the required application services available to them in their present location. However, these services will be developed upon a range of middleware...
متن کاملPower-Aware Middleware for Mobile Applications
This chapter develops a middleware based approach to optimizing the power consumption of low-power mobile devices executing rich applications such as multimedia streaming and location based services. In mobile distributed environments, generic middleware services (e.g. caching, location management etc.) are widely used to satisfy application Quality-of-Service (QoS) needs in a cost effective ma...
متن کاملNexusScout: An Advanced Location-Based Application on a Distributed, Open Mediation Platform
This demo shows several advanced use cases of location-based services and demonstrates how these use cases are facilitated by a mediation middleware for spatial information, the Nexus Platform. The scenario shows how a mobile user can access location-based information via so called Virtual Information Towers, register spatial events, send and receive geographical messages or find her friends by...
متن کاملIntegrating Middleware Paradigms to Support a Mobile Sport News Application
Mobile applications exist in environments that change (e.g. varying network bandwidth, network connectivity and device location) and may execute on end systems with limited resources such as battery power, CPU speed and memory. In order to provide the best level of service to the end user, the application must be aware of these factors and be able to adapt to deal with them [1]. There are a num...
متن کاملScalable Message Routing for Mobile Software Assistants
In this paper we define an algorithm for location-independent communication of mobile software Personal Assistants (PAs). The algorithm extends the Query Server with Caching algorithm that we proposed earlier, with support of message routing in the wide-area networks. Our algorithm is suitable for two kinds of PAs collaboration: (1) within a local group of mobile individuals, who can communicat...
